As many of you know, I’m a big superhero fan. From Antman to the Zatana, I love the legions of drawn heroes that have been created over time and I grew up loving them. I spotted the trailer for The Amazing Spiderman 2, and I have to say that I was floored. This post will contains nerd-bits galore. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Firstly, I love the new threads that Spiderman is touting this time around. The costume in the first movie worked, but I was hoping for the more traditional Spidey look. The sequel is where I get that look, and I completely geeked out when I saw the teaser picture for it. The costume for this movie looked very familiar and I couldn’t figure out why. Then, I realized that it was inspired by the Earth 1610 comics, or that of the Ultimate Universe! If you know me, you know that I love the Ultimate Universe and splooged at the nod to those comics when it came to the costume. Don’t worry, I’ll get into detail about that universe in detail down the road.
The first movie was alright, but the creation of the Lizard was handled very poorly and I didn’t care about said villain to save my life. His story is very tragic and I wanted to feel that when watching The Amazing Spiderman, but it didn’t work for me.
This movie seems to be delving deeper into Peter Parker’s secrets, or should I say the secrets of his father, Richard Parker? Initially, Peter loses his parents in a strange ‘accident’, but it’s obvious that something else is going on. I’m hoping that this movie dives more into the mystery that was set up in the previous movie, AND makes sure not to get muddled in setting up the three villains displayed in this poster.
It seems as though Spiderman will have to face the Rhino, Electro, and some other character. I’m assuming it’s Harry Osborn as the Hobgoblin, but I’d have to slow down the video to get a closer look. At any rate, we get a glimpse of a lab that holds the mechanical arm apparatus for Doctor Octopus, as well as the mechanical wings for the Vulture. Between those two, Rhino and Electro, I’m wondering if the writers are setting up a gigantic battle for the third movie that will include the Sinister Six. This group of villains consists of Doc Oc, Electro, Vulture, Green Goblin, Rhino, and Mysterio. However, the group has changed over time and I doubt they would go through all this trouble to set up these villains and show that lab in the trailer if that wasn’t what they were going for.
Keep in mind that I’m speaking as something who watched the Spiderman Animated Series on Fox Kids in the 90s, read comics, and played Spiderman video games. I could very well be wrong. Perhaps they are just throwing as many villains into it as possible to fill seats at the theater, but one thing is certain. There is more to this story than meets the eye. I’m excited to learn what went on with the secret Richard Parker kept, why he and his wife died, and what Norman Osborn has in store for Peter Parker/Spiderman. I’ll continue to keep track of this and other things as time goes on, but I enjoyed this trailer as a taste for what is to come. Did you see the trailer for The Amazing Spiderman 2? What did you think?
