Bryan Singer to direct X-Men: Apocalypse

Bryan Singer to direct X-Men: Apocalypse

In total, there have been seven X-Men movies. Bryan Singer has directed three and written/produced another. Now, it has been confirmed that he will direct another X-Men flick coming out sometime in the future. The thing I find funny about this is that of all the superheros available, Sony and 20th Century Fox WILL NOT return the rights for Spiderman and X-Men. No matter how bad the flick (Spiderman 3 or X-Men Origins: Wolverine), these two companies will hold onto the characters with an iron grip for as long as possible.

And why shouldn’t they? Marvel was silly enough to sell a bunch of their characters years ago, and now they are missing out on a bunch of money. It’s like Nintendo giving Sony the boot during development of a disc-based console. We all know how that turned out.

My point is this; X-Men: Days of Future Past is coming out next year, and they’re already setting up for another one. This is good because it keeps Fox in the running to hold onto the X-Men characters for longer, but it’s also good because we get to see what else they have up their sleeves. The group of mutants have stumbled along the way and have even taken a face-plant (again, X-Men Origins: Wolverine comes to mind), but I think the X-Men movies hit their stride with First Class. It was a good beginning that paved the way for The Wolverine and now Days of Future Past, which looks like it could be good.

Let’s hope that they introduce Apocalypse with a bang! I’ll keep my eyes open, but I think this could be very good.
